What is JCLA?

The Stennis Institute's “Junior Civics Leadership Academy” (JCLA) is a 7-day conference designed for high school students to learn about topics such as governance, leadership, and community development in a fun, hands on manner. In addition to enjoying the unique simulations and workshops that the Stennis Institute have used as their basis for training professionals across the state, JCLA students will also have the benefit of earning college credit at the same time!

JCLA 2025 will be held on Mississippi State's campus from June 21-27, 2025!

Registration will open on February 3, 2025!

The cost for JCLA is $1,500. This includes housing, lunch and dinner, transportation, supplies, and camp t-shirts. 

Students will receive 3 hours of elective credit that can be used towards their college degree at Mississippi State University.

An average day at JCLA will look like: 

9-10:30 a.m. Lecture
11-12:00 p.m. Guest Speaker
12:15-1:15 p.m. Lunch 
1:30-4:00 p.m.  Simulation Activity and Dinner
5:30 p.m. Field Trip
8:15-9:00 p.m. Social
9:15 p.m. Back into dorms
